How to Choose a Replacement Battery

Replacement battery guide

A replacement battery is a battery bought to replace the original battery in a device, rather than the battery that came with it. Choosing one means matching the device variant first, then checking the battery's specification, then confirming in the inquiry. This guide explains the steps in general terms; the model pages give the per-model specifications.

Start from the device variant, not the battery name

The device variant determines which batteries can fit and work. Two devices that look the same can take different batteries, and two batteries that look the same can serve different devices. Name the exact variant in the inquiry, including the model number and any further identifiers the device carries, so the seller can check against it.

Do not choose by a model name alone, and do not assume a battery that served one variant will serve another. The category pages explain how each category's models differ, and the compatibility guide explains how to check compatibility in detail.

Check voltage, capacity, and fit together

Voltage must match the device's requirements: a battery with the wrong voltage will not serve, however well it fits. Capacity describes how much energy the battery holds, and a larger capacity does not mean a better battery for a given device, because the battery must first fit and match. Fit describes the physical shape, connectors, and mount, and a battery that does not fit cannot serve, however well it matches electrically.

All three must match together. A buyer who checks only one, or only two, risks a battery that cannot be used. The specification tables on the model pages give the figures to check, and the inquiry is the place to confirm them.

Check the charging and temperature figures

Charging figures describe how a battery is refilled: the input type, the current, and the time where stated. Temperature ranges describe where a battery can operate, discharge, and be stored, and those ranges are stated on the V-mount and lighting model pages. A battery used outside its stated ranges may not perform as expected, and a battery charged with the wrong charger may be damaged.

Do not assume a charging figure for a model that does not state one, and do not assume a temperature range for a model that does not state one. Ask in the inquiry, and check the answer against the model page.

What to confirm before ordering

Name the model, the exact device variant it must serve, the quantity you have in mind, and the market you sell into. Ask for the specification for the exact model, the minimum order quantity, the lead time with its meaning, the warranty terms, and the certificates that apply to your market, by name, with documents attached.

Before payment, confirm the minimum order quantity, lead time and warranty terms for your order. Certificates are available upon request.
